April 15 is almost here: Get your tax returns completed

Tax season is almost over and April 15 will be here before we know it. For those of you who have not filed your income tax returns yet, here is a friendly reminder. You are quickly running out of time. This year’s tax deadline is less than two week away.

Though time is running out, it is important to not overlook items which can help increase the amount of a refund you receive or reduce the amount you have to pay. Do not rush your tax filing preparation during the last minute rush to meet the government’s annual tax filing deadline.

Here are some tips to help ensure you do not miss anything on this year’s tax return:

  • Avoid easy errors: Double check everything before submitting your final tax return.
  • Double check tax credits: Make sure you have claimed all available tax credits, including home energy-efficient improvements, child care expenses and charitable donations.
  • Report all income: Do not overlook any source of income, no matter how large or small.
  • Ask for help: Seek professional help if you are having trouble dealing with your tax return.
