Gender Gap Closing as Men’s Longevity Increases

When it comes to retirement planning, many couples will face an unexpected change.  Their needs might be greater than they used to be, thanks to an increase in longevity among American men. According to Allstate, the gender longevity gap is shrinking.  Between 1989 and 2009, U.S. male life expectancy jumped 4.6 years vs. 2.7 for females.  A man can expect to live to be 76.2.  For women, it’s 81.3.
